Luca Zaia tries to keep tempers under control within the League. The president of the Veneto region, guest of the December 10 episode of Agorà on Rai3, spoke about the shock that occurred in Lombardy with the expulsion of three members of the party after the support of Umberto Bossi’s committee: “In the League we are stable , there will be seasons of conferences. What happened in Lombardy makes me happy because Bossi and those who created the Northern Committee distanced themselves. One thing is discussion, confrontation, another thing is an alternative political subject, which is unsustainable. Alone maybe it’s faster but together we go much further. Internal debates are welcome, but differences are not”.
If on the one hand Zaia tries to calm the waters, on the other is Massimiliano Fedriga’s strategy. With a view to the 2023 regional elections, in which he will run again, the president of Friuli Venezia Giulia is indeed working on a list of governors. “We are seeing that many citizens, who do not recognize themselves in the national center-right parties, and who perhaps also look to other political parties, appreciate the administrative action that we have carried out. It is not an operation to recover consensus, but to expand it. Exactly like Luca Zaia or Giovanni Toti did. I believe that a list by the president after the first term will be useful for the coalition to offer voters an alternative that is not on the national track”, explained Fedriga in an interview with La Stampa.
