“These ten years are a winning bet, because everyone was sure that this party would not have survived and nobody would have thought that he could lead the government of the nation”. The Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, closes the party in Rome for the 10th anniversary of the Fratelli d’Italia. And she focus on pride. That of many militants, many of whom reached ministers and parliamentarians, and who, like her, feared several times that they would not succeed, thought “maybe I was the problem”, she confesses, when the polls and electoral results did not break through 4% . Now, however, “we overturned the predictions about the duration of the Brothers of Italy and I trust that we will also overturn the predictions about the duration of the government”, says the prime minister, convinced that “the government will do its best, without bosses, there are five years, giving that stability that is fundamental for the nation’s credibility”.
The leader’s speech closes the three-day event, which sees the ruling class that now rules the country pass through Piazza del Popolo. Meloni enters the marquee set up for the event, greeted by an ovation, the hall shouts “Giorgia, Giorgia”. She blows kisses to the audience. Then she recalls her personal crossing of the desert, “for us there was never anything easy” and now “we arrived at the government at the most difficult moment in republican history”. But the Palazzo Chigi tenant does not say she is scared, on the contrary she defends her first moves ahead of the executive, namely on the budget law, migrants and raves «I am very satisfied with the maneuver carried out in practically 10 days. Others would have postponed political choices, while we presented a political maneuver, respecting many of the commitments assumed», says Meloni, who has something for everyone. For the “bizarre positions” of the CGIL, “which says it is a maneuver against the poor and then, when confronted with the government, defends the Pos that affects small traders”; for Confindustria which «tells me that I have to do more», but «also tells me where to get the resources».
Another complaint about the chapter on migrants. “If Europe today places the central Mediterranean route among its priorities, it is because the Italian government has done something”, says the prime minister, speaking of the tension with Paris over the landings and downplaying the differences with Macron: “We are not in primary school, I am the Prime Minister, he is the President of the French Republic. The dynamic is not personal, but a little more political». And “I missed the summit in Alicante not so I wouldn’t see Macron, but because I’m too old to wear a dress with bare shoulders like I did at La Scala in Milan, where I caught a fever”, guarantees Meloni. As for the rule of raves, it is the symbol of a political manifesto: «The Italy that attacks respectable people and pretends not to see who commits a crime, is over. Everyone is free to do what they want respecting the rules, and the rules apply to everyone.
The leader of the FdI also gives two other pieces of news. The first concerns Lazio, «the nomination of the candidate for president of the regionals is up to the FdI but I insist that there be a name shared with the allies. And for that reason I will make a pre-selection of three names to the allies and until Monday I will announce the name of the candidate ». The second concerns the lawsuit against Roberto Saviano: “No, I will not give up”, because “he repeatedly called me a bastard, making me responsible for the death of a child”. From party leader to head of the coalition that governs Italy, Meloni is aware of his role and sends messages to allies with whom “relations are excellent and I am very happy and proud of the coalition and the ministers”. A role that is now also recognized by the main “shareholders” of the majority, Silvio Berlusconi and Matteo Salvini.
“This time, your initiative has an extraordinary meaning because the Italians have entrusted their and our leaders with the task of leading the country. Viva, viva, viva», says the leader of Forza Italia in the video message sent to the event (whose duration provokes some boos and more than a grunt among the FdI supporters present inside the tent and in the square, waiting for the intervention of the melons). “This government is the culmination of a journey that began 28 years ago when, with my entry into the field, the centre-right was born”, says Cavaliere, speaking of “a historic turning point” in which the executive is led by “a leadership policy direct expression of law, its history, its values. Today, Italian democracy is truly complete». On the other hand, the leader of the Lega Salvini is more pragmatic, for whom Meloni «has the honor and burden of being prime minister and will be for a long time. We intend to govern for at least five years, but my objective is to govern for ten years” and “take a long journey together”. Germany”, recalls Meloni, and “the hope for next year is that things will go better for the Italians, also in terms of optimism. We always feel sorry for ourselves. I would like to give them optimism.”
