Migrants, Piantedosi’s plan on NGOs: “Decree for flows after holidays”

The flow decree “is not postponed” I believe “we will be ready after the holidays”. The announcement was made by the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, to the microphones of SkyTg24 ‘Live in Bergamo’.

The minister explained that the government program for managing migratory flows “is an idea that takes into account the geographical position of our country, our government’s ambition is to govern inflows. action. There will be a first measure that could arrive after the holidays”. As for the issue of migrants, “for the NGOs we are thinking of redefining a framework of rules, there has been a lot of talk about the code of conduct. We are thinking of something that could be included in the legislation of the sector, but it is a very technical question”, added the Minister of the Interior.

“In the old question that exists between what is a rescue mission and what are the systematic searches for people who leave on the initiative of traffickers, we want to introduce rules that can create clear elements of distinction, whose violation can be followed by sanctioning mechanisms. We are working so that this type of regulation finds a new edition in a regulatory device that we intend to adopt as soon as possible”, underlined Piantedosi. “We want to bring the issue of NGOs back to the administrative field so that they have a less serious connotation and at the same time more effective and direct instruments for applying sanctions”, she clarified.

“I record – continued the minister – that often the behavior of some non-governmental organizations seems to be more focused than carrying out real rescues towards a predetermined action to bring only migrants from Libya and other countries to Italy”. As for relations with Paris, “we never waged war with France and we never fought. I met with my French counterpart on two institutional appointments and on both occasions I did not register attitudes of discord, on the contrary when we intervened in the work of the European Councils of Ministers I was able to verify that our positions largely overlap”.
