It is a race against time in Montecitorio to approve the maneuver by Christmas Eve and then leave the floor to the other arm of Parliament, which will have to discard the device definitively by the end of the year. After the general discussion on Thursday morning, the examination in the Chamber continued in fits and starts, in a climate of tension between the majority and the opposition: in the end, after several interruptions to define exactly the perimeter of the changes indicated by the General Accounting of the State, the ‘Aula approved the request for referral to the Commission of the budget law made by the president of the Budget Commission Giuseppe Mangialavori. So the government should raise the issue of trust. On the other hand, the proposal by the Green Left Alliance to extend the perimeter of amendments to the law that authorizes wild boar hunting in urban areas, excluding it from the manoeuvre, was rejected.
“I propose sending the budget law to the commission, exclusively for the purpose of amending or deleting some provisions that present problematic profiles from the point of view of financial coverage, as results from the note of the General Accounting of the State”, said the president of the Commission in the Chamber Balance. Not only did the amendment that destined 450 million for the Municipalities (approved by mistake in the Commission, by the same admission of the majority) skipped or underwent changes, due to coverage problems), given that another 44 corrections refer to as many amendments.
The Undersecretary for Economy and Finance, Lúcia Albano, specifies in a note: «In view of the criticisms that have arisen, I think it appropriate to emphasize that the notes prepared by the State Court of Auditors in the process of approving the budget law are part of the normal operations carried out by the Mef technicians. These technical observations were also received last year and to a much greater extent. Furthermore, I would like to remind you that in the last two years the maneuver ended on December 30th and the acting executive was not formed in the autumn, as happened in the Meloni government. Together with the MEF technicians, whom I thank for their punctual and always professional contribution, Parliament and the Government are working on the last adjustments to the maneuver in the Budget Committee in the Chamber, before the vote of confidence is placed”. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also tried to extinguish the controversy, who, meeting with the parliamentarians of the Brothers of Italy, underlined that “in the midst of a thousand difficulties, the trampling and these complex days of the Budget law, and despite what can and should improve, it seems to me that compared to those who expected and predicted the departure of this government and this majority as a catastrophe, this story that was made against us is coming back pleasantly for them like a boomerang”.
