Cabinet allocates 2.5 billion for aid to Ukraine next year

The Netherlands will allocate 2.5 billion euros to support Ukraine next year. The government believes this amount will be used for military support, support for reconstruction efforts and contributions to the fight against impunity. The ministers concerned reported this to the House of Representatives, and Prime Minister Rutte informed President Selenskyj in a phone call.

How exactly the contribution will be used depends on the needs of the Ukrainians and therefore on the course of the war.

Dutch ministers assume that Ukraine will continue to need substantial support next year. Russia’s war in Ukraine continues and has turned into a war of attrition.”

Announcing that the cabinet will allocate funds for next year, he wanted to send a signal that “Dutch solidarity with the Ukrainian people has not waned, who can count on the foreseeable support of the Netherlands as much as necessary.” And it is also a signal to Russia.

cooperation with other countries

As this year, military support will be provided in part from our own Dutch stocks and through commercial purchases. The government relies on cooperation and coordination with other countries and the defense industry. The aim is to increase the effectiveness of supplies to the Ukrainian Armed Forces while limiting the impact on their own armed forces.”

Rehabilitation assistance is planned, for example, for infrastructure, hospitals, emergency shelters and mine clearance. The government relies on humanitarian aid, among other things. 2.5 billion euros is not covered and is reflected in the national debt.

Last week, Minister Ollongren reported that the Netherlands has so far provided nearly 1 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine.
