La Russa frames the left: “He attacks me because he wants to sabotage social peace”

Ignazio La Russa launches the counterattack: “The left is attacking me to sabotage social peace”. And then he indulges in a few jokes like this one: “I have more faith in Meloni than Inter anyway. Giorgia never gives up and doesn’t keep any nasty surprises.” In an interview with Líbero, the president of the Senate continues: “The problem with Inter is that it is unpredictable, it goes up and down. Unlike the Brothers of Italy which, on the other hand, always improves”, said La Russa premise. The core of the interview, signed by Pietro Senaldi, is devoted to the attacks that the press made on him for having participated in an FdI event and for having responded with “tell me what the hell you think” to a reporter from Il Fatto Daily, who insistently asked what role he thought should be given to his presence, in practice emphasizing that he behaved like a politician despite being president of the Senate, despite not being in fact the first institutional position to participate in party events.

“They use a completely different criterion for me compared to that used by my predecessors – says La Russa – those who preceded me stood out for having made the parliamentary presidency a place to exercise on many occasions an even higher political role than the previously played. In fact, some, like my friend Fini, Grasso, even founded their own new party as president. And then you remember Bertinotti who overthrew a government or Fico and Boldrini? Not to mention the times of the first Republic, when Fanfani I gathered all DC currents at Palazzo Giustiniani for a public political pact. They scolded me for going to the conferences of people I’ve been friends with all my life, others for behaving like leaders of a party, in fact some in some cases without taking responsibility for doing it in the sunlight”. La Russa says: “When I preside over the Senate, I am more than impartial. In fact, having been in the opposition for a long time, I want to favor the who are not part of the majority, almost as a compensation. But I do not stop being a politician outside the Palazzo Madama, I claim the right without hypocrisy to give my testimony”. At the beginning “I believed that the left was only stealing because, as a man of the right, I reached the presidency of the Senate without ever having denied my principles”, now “I suspect that the left also fears that I will be able to take a small step forward in the process of national peace. Basically, that my project of overcoming ideological barriers can have some success”.
