Nicola Procaccini, MEP for the Brothers of Italy and coordinator of the electoral campaign in the provinces of the centre-right candidate for the Presidency of the Region of Lazio, Francesco Rocca. What is the environment in view of the February 12th and 13th appointment?
«Each day one breathes more and more the atmosphere of great involvement. We are approaching a date that for us, the Brothers of Italy, could be the closing of a circle, after ten years of government of Lazio by the left, and after our victory in the last general elections. It is an exciting time, which we are living, our demonstrations in the area are increasingly participatory, and we can’t wait to be put to the test”.
With Francesco Rocca, you couldn’t have chosen a better candidate.
“Exactly. As you know, at one point I was part of that famous group of candidates for the presidency of the Lazio Region that President Giorgia Meloni had proposed to our allies. I think Francesco Rocca is the best person, the right person in the right place because his his professional and life trajectory has given him qualities that, in my opinion, are necessary to lead Lazio.On the other hand, Rocca has a managerial capacity that is the result of his experience both in the regional health sector and in an important voluntary organization such as the Italian Red Cross. The international relationships he built over time will be very useful later. Ultimately, his is a story of personal redemption that moves me, that I consider precious”.
What are the issues that most concern you in this election campaign?
«There is the issue of infrastructure: in fact, the development of a territory derives from the capacity for movement of men and goods. There is also the issue of waste: we spend hundreds of thousands of euros to ship it across Europe, making recipients twice as rich. Because first we pay them the transfer, then because they produce energy with this waste that they put at the service of the territory. There is also health: the fact that the Democratic Party candidate for the presidency of Lazio, the one who was a regional health councilor, frankly surprises me. The objective data speak of closed hospitals, of an objectively negative balance of hospital units. The most emblematic example is health mobility, with citizens of Lazio choosing to have the surgery outside the Region, with the respective reimbursements payable in Lombardy, Veneto and Emilia-Romagna. In addition to the damage, finally, the insult. Without forgetting the waiting lists, the collapsing urgencies ».
The electoral campaign of the Pd and M5s is proving to be inconsistent…
«The left had a very cowardly electoral campaign at the beginning, because they tried to hit Rocca personally, and that shows a weakness in content. Even the 5 Star Movement, as the Democratic Party did in the past, appointed a television presenter to preside over Lazio, which demonstrates its inability to focus precisely on content ».
