Former presidential candidate Federico Gutiérrez submitted a request to the National Electoral Council (CNE) on Wednesday to give the Creemos movement legal status.
Before the regional elections, Gutiérrez hopes to consolidate the new leadership in the country, having received more than 5 million votes in the last presidential election.
Among the requirements required by law to file the application are: application document, copy of the statutes, 590,529 valid signatures establishing Creemos as a significant group of citizens that enabled her to nominate candidates for the presidency of the republic and the vice-presidency of the Republic.
Compliance with this requirement includes the collection of signatures and the election results obtained, both in the inter-party consultations in which it obtained more than 2 million votes, and in the elections for the presidency and vice-presidency of the Republic.
Former presidential candidate Federico Gutiérrez assured that: “At Creemos, we rely on Colombian institutions and we believe that as a movement we have all the merits to gain legal status. The fact that other movements have recently received a positive reception also gives us hope. The multitude of ideas enriches democracy”.
In May he will decide on his political ambitions.
In accordance with the law, the National Electoral Council has thirty (30) working days to analyze and respond to the request.

It was born in Medellín in 2015 as a citizens’ demonstration to search for independent candidates to participate in the regional elections. The sizable group of Creemos citizens were registered with the electoral body twice; the first with the aim of registering candidates to participate in the regional elections held in 2015, and in which Federico Gutiérrez obtained the mayoral office of Medellín with 246,221 votes, participate in the interparty consultations within the Equipo por Colombia coalition, and for Ten finally, to register a candidate for the presidency and vice presidency of the Republic in 2022 in which he had more than 5 million votes.
