The Conservative Party ended the controversy in recent hours and ratified Carlos Andrés Trujillo as its president.
The announcement was made after a letter was leaked in which several senators and representatives of the conservative bank asked Trujillo to leave the leadership so that Efraín Cepeda could take over.
“The undersigned, accredited majority members of the National Conservative Directorate, appreciate and emphasize the work of the current party chairman, Carlos Andrés Trujillo, who adequately and democratically interpreted the political reality of the country against which our party plays a role. fundamental role in preserving and strengthening democracy and state institutions,” reads the document accessed by EL HERALDO.
However, Trujillo moved his schedule and, despite being abroad, held several phone sessions with community leaders with the aim of neutralizing the eventual coup.
The moves paid off, as Wednesday night the blues gave the endorsement to Senator Trujillo.
“We clarify that after speaking with the members of the National Directorate, they have endorsed in writing their support to continue in front of the community,” the statement said.
They explain that upon Trujillo’s return to Colombia, meetings will be held with the other members to clear any doubts that endanger the unity.
