Regional elections in Lombardy. At 3:00 p.m. the counting of the ballots begins, and soon, already in the afternoon, we will know the results of this election round. Who will be the new governor of Lombardy? There are four players competing:
- ex-president Attilio Fontana, backed by the centre-right coalition;
- Pierfrancesco Majorino candidate for the centre-left coalition and M5s;
- Letizia Moratti candidate for the Third Pole;
- Mara Ghidorzi supported by Unione Popolare;
Lombardy elections: live results
Favorite remains the outgoing governor. Also, as wide space on the left was devastated after the Third Pole’s decision to support Moratti, a choice not shared by Pd and instead proposing its own candidate, Pierfrancesco Majorino, also supported by the Five Star Movement. Today The count will be done live. The debut polls will come right after the polls close.
Regional elections in Lombardy: who wins?
In Lombardy, the regional council consists of 80 seats and is elected in a proportional system that guarantees at least one representative for each of the 12 Lombard provinces. There are no ballot papers as in mayors. This means that the person with the most votes in the first round wins, even without exceeding 50%. In other words, it is sufficient to have a relative majority of the votes cast at the ballot boxes.
Participation was so low, this figure – needless to say – is no longer surprising. Paradoxically, all eyes are focused on the favourite, centre-right. For a rather trivial reason: if Lega and Forza Italia get a lower-than-expected result, fibrillations among the government majority are inevitable and the consequences are unpredictable.
