Omnibus, the Jubilee attack: politics must not enter Sanremo

Highlight for Sanremo 2023. The Festival is over, but the echo of the controversy still hasn’t subsided. This was discussed during the Feb. 13 episode of Omnibus with studio guest Francesco Giubilei. The extraordinary adviser to the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, criticizes the Festival for allowing politics to enter a context in which one should only talk about music.

“It cannot be accepted that the Italian Song Festival becomes a political manifestation – thunders Giubilei – Fedez made a political attack against the centre-right. It was a constant provocation: there was a torn photo of a deputy minister and that was not the right context to raise this story, then there was the attack on Minister Eugenia Roccella on the issue of abortion that had nothing to do with it, then there was the declaration of legalization of drugs and, finally, the kiss between Fedez and Rosa Chemical. in short, if there is an event of a cultural nature, politics should not come in. The government will have to make decisions. Among other things, Fedez undertakes all the political battles he undertakes (see the Zan bill) and loses, so I think that he will also lose the battle for cultural hegemony. To this day, those in government express the director general and make some appointments in Rai. What happened in Sanremo was a provocation and we talked about politics in a context where that one should not talk about politics”.
