The third pole does not break in Lombardy. Here, unlike Lazio, Calenda and Renzi opted to compete alone, betting on a center-right reference name, that of Letizia Moratti. But, despite the “transversal” candidacy, they did not achieve the feat. In fact, the result that came out of the polls is below expectations. Moratti obtained 9.6% (when scrutinized 7,636 out of 9,254), less than 10.15% of Policies. Another fact makes us think: Moratti’s list for president (5.23%) took more than the list of Azione-Italia Viva (4.12%). Calenda thanks the candidate for president, who “spent a lot”, but admits: “Outside of the Third Pole vote pool, we were unable to reach consensus”.
For the director of Azione, “the same happened with Alessio D’Amato, to whom all our thanks go, with regard to the Pd-Terzo Polo poll”. How to get out of this situation? “With regard to our list, the results were particularly penalized by the bipolar mechanism of the regional elections and the lower presence of opinion votes – explains Calenda – The construction of a single reformist, liberal and popular center party becomes even more urgent”.
Moratti, in turn, was not discouraged, showing confidence in the political project. «The candidates on the list are splendid, extraordinary people, very serious and competent people, so I look to the future. My candidates will enter the Council, we will make a point very soon, I am convinced that there is room for a new political proposal”. Moratti, incidentally, will not have a vacancy at Pillone. Lombardy’s electoral law provides for a vacancy on the regional council only for the second presidential candidate with the most votes. Moratti, in fact, decided to run only for the presidency of the Region and not run with a list for the Council. The Third Pole candidate also responds to Majorino of the Democratic Party, who accused Renzi and Calenda of having rowed against, preventing the creation of a broad alliance to oppose the center-right: «To join forces with Majorino crushed in the M5S would have been to betray our electorate ».
In short, Moratti does not regret it, «going back I would make the same decision», he says, «my choice is very convinced, I left a position, I did not accept positions of great prestige that were offered to me with conviction, I believe that in this region democracy is blocked, the weak opposition is content to be opposition. I am convinced that there is room for change and I say this with respect to the parties that won and the voters who voted for them. There are signs of trouble. I am convinced of the choice made with conviction, I chose the most difficult path but I always chose paths in which I thought I could contribute. I did it in my region and I believe there is room for a new political proposal that goes beyond this region, this result is a starting point. The strong opposition is made by trying to win, you haven’t won here for thirty years We are a young team but I don’t think we are inexperienced we have many qualities but it was not possible to bring them to the fore in this campaign because there were no comparisons with a situation in which the people did not know that it was difficult to transmit messages”. «I will continue my commitment with a new political proposal, I will certainly listen to Calenda and Renzi. I don’t think it’s fair to complain about what was possible and what was not, the number is that of a very full campaign in the middle of winter with a terrible cold that created problems that I still feel today», he says referring to the severe cold. Disappointment? “But no, I have a lot of respect for the vote.”
