“Greater synergy”. Verderami reveals Meloni’s requests to Piantedosi about migrants

“Giorgia Meloni chose the European path to really take on the immigration issue”. This is the background provided by Francesco Verderami in Corriere della Sera on the Prime Minister’s actions following the controversy over migrants and the sentences pronounced by Minister Matteo Piatedosi. In recent days, there has been a direct dialogue between Rome and Brussels, with qualified government sources who considered “von der Leyen’s response very positive because the reasons set out by the prime minister are recognized”.

“This direct dialogue between Palazzo Chigi and the Commission basically ends up reducing the role of Piantedosi, which the prime minister asks for ‘greater synergy’. What in the political lexicon amounts to a downsizing of the owner of the Ministry of the Interior and is also a signal to Salvini, the minister’s sponsor. All of this also translates into an indirect request for greater coordination in terms of communication and less public exposure”, analyzes the newspaper on the situation linked to the Ministry of the Interior. This reconstruction is confirmed by a phrase from a senior member of the government: “Those who run the Interior usually give two interviews a year”.

Verderami continues in his past: “The case generated strong tensions with the League, which highlighted to the Prime Minister the different attitude taken with Piantedosi in relation to the Demastro-Donzelli case. With Piantedosi, in fact, there was no public attestation. In addition, Meloni centralizes the issue of migration, adopting a political maneuver that, due to its passage through Europe, ends up bypassing the Interior”. The article ends with a quote from Meloni about the decision to hold the Council of Ministers in Cutro: “If I don’t go, they tell me that I’m insensitive, if I go with the whole government, they tell me that it’s a d’image”.
