Camera, first Schlein-Meloni duel. Piddina silenced: “Italians poorer because of you”

He closely monitors all interventions and, from time to time, corrects his question time in pen and file. Elly Schlein debuted with great prominence in the Chamber as secretary of the Democratic Party in the Montecitorio session devoted to issues addressed to Giorgia Meloni. The dem secretary sits on her bench, between Chiara Gribaudo and Debora Serracchiani, and doesn’t miss a speech. Among others, he gives more than one applause to the ‘qt’ of the Greens on the ecological transition and that of the M5S on the high mortgage rate. With the prime minister sitting a few meters away from her in the government benches, not a glance during the session. Very concentrated, Schlein allows herself only a few sips of water.

“Madam President”, begins by recalling the prime minister who meanwhile takes notes, but who immediately interrupts to follow the words of the leader of the dem. “We are here”, for minimum wage and equal vacation, says Schlein. Meloni, to the applause of the Brothers of Italy, blames “those who have governed until now” for the salary cuts. The Democratic leader is closely following the Prime Minister’s words.

Meloni has strong support from the FdI, with deputies who at one point even rise to a standing ovation. From the stands, to the Prime Minister’s statements, Peppe Provenzano shamelessly responds by putting his hands in his hair. “Your words don’t satisfy us,” says Schlein, drowning: “Now I’m in the opposition, it’s up to you to give answers.” When the secretary of the dem responds, the prime minister responds loudly but off the microphone: “I said so!”. Schlein, reports Adnkronos, ends the applause of the dem deputies and among the ‘buuu’ of the FdI on the rights of children of homosexual couples that Meloni herself ‘resolve’ with gestures. Among others, Enrico Letta shook the secretary’s hand. The first round between the two is over.
