Giorgia Meloni at the CGIL Congress, Sorgi applauds the Prime Minister’s speech

Giorgia Meloni spoke at the CGIL congress, the “lions’ den”, to illustrate tax reform, labor policies and demand the abolition of basic income. The prime minister was challenged outside the Palacongressi in Rimini and inside, where a group of people greeted her with clenched fists and chanting “Bella Ciao”.

Meloni, visibly irritated, was silent for a few seconds, and before getting into the heart of the speech, she specified: “I’ve been booed since I was 16, I don’t get scared. I am a knight on the merit of boos… I read slogans like Melons are not welcome… I didn’t know that Chiara Ferragni was a metallurgist”. With reference to the “Think free” message brought by the digital entrepreneur to the Sanremo Festival. The leader of the Brothers in Italy explained that hers is a social right, different from what was known up to now, and re-launched the importance of merit as “the only true social ascent”.

The former director of “La Stampa”, Marcello Sorgi, guest of the lecture “L’Aria che Tira” at LA7, on Friday, March 17, praised the incipit: “hello beauty it wasn’t a frontal dispute, it was reiterating that there is distance between them and her. A leader who is frightened by boos is not a true political leader. He’s part of the job. They are always there, match the social networks that are always looking for a way to criticize”.

As proof, the editorialist recalled an old episode: “Many years ago, at a congress in DC, the delegates stayed there all night because the leaders could not reach an agreement. At one point, the delegates started banging on the tables. Fanfani appeared and said, as Meloni did today, I’ve been booing my whole life and if I was scared of it, you wouldn’t be here today. And the audience was silent!”.

Presenter Myrta Merlino echoed: “Yes, Giorgia Meloni made a long premise with a very strong identity, it’s as if she said I’m here, I’m brave, I’m ready”. In the end, the Prime Minister received wide applause when she strongly condemned the attack by far-right groups on the CGIL headquarters a year ago and zero risk.
