The primaries and the election of Elly Schlein to the secretariat gave impetus to the PD consensus. However, hollowing out the Green-Left alliance and stealing some preferences from the 5 Star Movement. In short, there is fibrillation on the left. In Bidimedia’s latest political survey, presented on Friday, February 17, significant differences were observed in voting orientations compared to the previous month’s survey. The Democratic Party advances 2.2 percent and rises to 18.7. Verdi-Left is below three percent (2.9, -0.7), while Giuseppe Conte’s 5 Stelle Movement loses a sharp point and drops to 16 percent.
In the centre-right, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s party, Brothers of Italy, is losing ground, but it is still by far the leading political force on the board (28.1 percent, -0.8). Significant leap in the League which rose to 9.2 percent thanks to a 0.6 percent growth. Forza Italia steady at 7.1 percent, trailing Action-Italia viva at 8.4 percent. Behind +Europa (2.6 percent) nobody reaches two percent. Confidence in the Meloni government is estimated at 40 percent (-2), with a boost among voters in the center-right coalition (90 percent, +5).
We were talking about the consensus flows within the left-center galaxy. In the Bidimedia survey, an interesting question stands out for voters of the various parties: with Schlein as secretary, would you consider the idea of voting for the Democratic Party? Well, 54 percent of GreenLeft voters say they will “a lot or fairly.” A bloodshed for Nicola Fratoianni and Angelo Bonelli. Instead, 30% are willing to “betray” +Europa, the same percentage of voters who could give up on the Popular Union of Luigi de Magistris. Bad news for Conte: 16% of M5s fans may soon prefer Schlein. If this hollowing out of left parties in favor of the Democrats took place, the Democratic Party could reach 24.7%. In short, a return to bipolarity.
