“For 57% of Italians, teachers must completely refrain from publicly expressing any political assessment.” This is the result of a survey carried out by the SWG institute in February concerning, in particular, the case of the director of Florence, Annalisa Savino, who wrote a circular commenting on the fight between boys that took place in front of a secondary school in Florence. Precisely on the basis of this research, the Yoodata Institute carried out an experimental study on the text of Professor Savino’s letter that asked the question: “Did Director Savino allude, perhaps unwittingly, to some particular political force (thus disrespecting the principle of neutrality)? ” . To answer this question, an empirical research was organized, which used the text of the principal’s letter as stimulating material.
In particular, we focus on the following period: ”Whoever exalts the value of borders, who honors the blood of ancestors in opposition to the different, continuing to erect walls, must be left alone, called by name, fought with ideas and with culture. Without deluding ourselves that this disgusting regurgitation will pass by itself. Many respectable Italians also thought so a hundred years ago, but it was not so”. According to what emerged, the director was referring to “the current majority of the centre-right, in particular the Lega and the Fratelli d’Italia”, according to 88% of those interviewed, “to other political forces for 8%” and “to no force policy in particular for the 4%”.
