«Children come into the world if there is a mother and a father. And not because religion says so. So the person can be heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, transsexual, pansexual. Long live love always and everywhere. The baby comes into the world and is adopted if it has a mother and father, then the adults do what they want. Everyone is free to love whoever they want, as long as our history, our past and our future, our mother and father, are not erased”.
If ever there was a need, with these words Matteo Salvini blocks in the bud the crusade of Elly Schlein, who announced the PD’s bill on Saturday in Milan to give rights to same-sex couples. An offensive, that of the Secretary of the Democratic Party, behind which many see the attempt to unmask surrogacy in our country. A very clear attempt, given that prominent exponents of that party, such as Laura Boldrini, admit it bluntly: «Surrogacy is a complex subject, we have to talk about it without prejudice». The deputy prime minister and leader of the League was even clearer and indicated the objective of the majority: “There are bad fathers, bad mothers, separations and divorces. But surrogacy is something shameful, it should be an international crime punished. The child is adopted if there is a mother and father».
The way forward is another. The leader of the League proposes “accelerating the adoptions of couples who have been waiting for years and don’t have forty thousand euros to spend, because there are so many couples who cannot have children, who can’t wait to adopt a child. The bureaucracy is very long and the expenses very expensive». Salvini’s proposal to establish an “international crime” is already included in the bill presented by the FdI in both houses. Device that aims to make it a crime to use a uterus for rent abroad. The firm position of the government had already emerged a few days ago, when Viminale, through the mayors, imposed on the Municipality of Milan a halt in the transcription of children of homosexual couples. Even the Minister of the Family, Eugenia Roccella, guest at the another half hour in Rai 3, explains what the heart of the matter is: «Surrogate motherhood? Let’s call it by its name, “surrogate womb”».
The minister prefers to use this definition because it “focuses on passing money”. Then Roccella announces: “Now we will make a law against surrogacy.” And she invites you to read the surrogacy contracts: “It can cost around 100 thousand euros, something for the rich, but the women” who provide the uterus “receive ten thousand euros”. «Oocytes are chosen, he explains again – it is a market with even racist connotations, white women are chosen, black women’s oocytes cost less. Then the woman who lends the uterus is chosen, who is usually pretty and blonde. And you also choose your religion. They also tried to make one in Milan, then there was some fear, an addendum, and it was not done, but they are being made all over Europe, the last one was made in Paris. Today, through technologies and the market, especially assisted procreation, we have the possibility of planning a child without a mother, while when the child is adoptable, the damage is repaired”, continues the minister, adding that “we are moving backwards, not coming after you. We are returning to the forms of commodification and enslavement of the female body, which I consider absolutely uncivilized. This is not a progress front. it’s the opposite.”
