The left turn of Elly Schlein’s Pd sends the maneuvers into an alliance with Giuseppe Conte’s 5 Star Movement into a tailspin. In the resolution of the dem filed in the Senate on the occasion of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s communications in view of the next EU Council, all the differences with 5Stelle emerge: the text commits the government “to continue to guarantee full support, with all necessary forms of assistance, the people and institutions of Ukraine; support the European Union’s strengthening of collective pressure on Russia, isolating it, to end the fighting and withdraw from Ukrainian territory; actively promote substantial political articulation and diplomatic effort on the part of the Union, for the attainment of a just and lasting peace based on respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine”.
In short, Schlein tries to make pacifism and weapons coexist. For his part, Conte, penalized by the latest polls, clearly wants to differentiate himself from the Democratic Party precisely in the war, given that the issue of the minimum wage was “stolen” by Schlein. And so the M5 pushes for a resounding no to sending arms to Kiev to “test Schlein’s pacifism, let’s see if, as she says, she really wants to give voice to what her voters think”, writes Repubblica which reports the words of an important exponent of the Movement.
