The government is tightening the nominations of large state-owned companies. There are 600 vacancies that are about to expire and among them are giants like Eni, Enel, Leonardo, Poste and Terna. And there still remains a kind of uncertainty, which the Corriere della Sera tries to clarify. One of the few certainties is that Claudio Descalzi is heading towards an obvious reconfirmation as CEO of ENI, for what will be his fourth term at the head of the company that supplies gas and electricity to the Italians. A true record, making it even longer-lived than founder Enrico Mattei. In particular, Descalzi has a close relationship of trust with Giorgia Meloni, who considers Eni a strategic company for the management of Italian foreign policy.
The situation is different for Enel, where Francesco Starace’s adventure seems to have come to an end. To replace him as CEO, Stefano Donnarumma, current CEO of Terna, is the only one among the great public managers present last year at the planning conference of the Brothers of Italy. In recent days, Donnarumma has spoken with Paolo Scaroni, who may be named chairman after previously holding the role of CEO. However, Liga prefers different profiles, such as that of Flavio Cattaneo.
It remains to understand the situation linked to Leonardo, with Alessandro Profumo ready to be replaced. Among the names that circulated heavily is Roberto Cingolani, former minister of energy transition in the Draghi government and current consultant to Meloni, who, however, lost the quotations. On the other hand, there is Lorenzo Mariani, manager of the European missile manufacturer Mbda, controlled by Leonardo. Mariani has the support of Defense Minister Guido Crosetto. Matteo Del Fante must instead be reconfirmed at the Poste Italiane.
