Members of JA21 wrote in a letter to their party’s executive committee that they were concerned about a “lack of democracy” within the party. Those who wrote the letter include two of the party’s three lawmakers, Nicki Pouw-Verweij and Derk Jan Eppink. The letter was also signed by state lawmakers and lawmakers, including Rob Roos.
Interested members not only want more democracy within the party, but also disparage the outcome of the parliamentary elections and find it unclear what their party stands for.
Members were also disappointed that the board did nothing with the new criticism. How the party should continue to be a “mature party with more professionalism” is what members want to discuss at the plenary meeting in mid-April.
‘to catch up’
In it, the authors advocate, among other things, a statement of principles and a party council that determines party cadres.
MP Nicky Pouw-Verweij confirmed the existence of the letter sent to NOS. He concedes that the party is young and at a stage of development, but we are now “three elections further”. There is no conflict, Verweij says, but the time has come to “catch up”.
Most of the proposals correspond to the direction the party has taken since the last plenary meeting, chief executive Adrien de Boer told the ANP news agency. De Boer says he sees “certain indications” that “the party may be working”.
