Schlein’s New Grand Secretariat and the Roman Democratic Party’s Stomach Ache

A self-funded dinner in Modena: this will be the occasion when Elly Schlein and Stefano Bonaccini will meet again, after the tug of war over the group’s leaders. The secretary of the Pd awaits the double test of the definition of the executive team of the DEM and of the alliances. The first is more immediate, a matter of hours, days at most. It should be official between Monday and Tuesday. There is still time for the second, since the first real test will be that of the Europeans, a year from now, when we will vote with a functional proportional system to measure forces in the field and then, based on the results, we will understand what will be the «centre» of permanent gravity of the opposition». The meeting between the secretary and the president of the DEM is for today at 7 pm, at Poliesportiva San Faustino, via Wiligelmo 72 in Modena. Schlein and Bonaccini will speak from the stage and then attend the self-funded dinner. What the DEM leader is working on could be a very large secretariat, informs parliamentary sources, comprising about twenty people.

Despite this, the puzzle of the executive dem proves to be anything but easy to assemble, also due to the need to balance the weight of the various souls of the Democratic Party, including the minority. In fact, the entrance to the Bonaccini area remains the knot to untie. And, in particular, which minority: that of the new olive voters who did not participate in the last meeting with the governor, effectively paving the way for the vote by acclamation of the leaders of the group? Or even the most “critical”? Skepticism emerges from the area that is organized around the president of Emilia-Romagna about the possibility of closing a deal on the secretariat before the beginning of next week. It is probably the reasoning that today’s meeting could serve, if not to go into details of the powers of attorney, at least to define a modus operandi. A way to test the common ground. As for the names in the field, the only certainties concern the exponents close to Schlein. Dance the delegation to the organization to which the name of Marco Sarracino, deputy and former head of the organization of the former Schlein movement, was mentioned. The power of attorney could go to Schlein’s machine man, Giovanni Gaspare Righi. A kind of Mr. Wolf de Schlein, the one the secretary turns to to undo the logistical and organizational tangles.

In the quota of the First Article, Cecília Guerra could join the secretariat, for which the delegation of work would be ready. Stefania Bonaldi, another Schlein loyalist, doesn’t seem destined to go to local authority, but a secretarial job should still be safe for her. On the other hand, Michela Di Biase, deputy of Areadem, may have to sacrifice her seat in the secretariat for the election of Chiara Braga, another exponent of Franceschini’s area, as head of the group in the Chamber. Prices for two “outside” dems like Rossella Muroni and Marta Bonafoni are on the rise. Two names said to be causing a stir in the Roman party. Muroni expressed opposition to the waste-to-energy plant, a project Roberto Gualtieri is working on as extraordinary commissioner for waste management. Bonafoni, in turn, was group leader in the Lazio Regional Council for the Zingaretti list, and is the only elected member of the list who supported Alessio D’Amato. Considered Schlein’s lieutenant in Rome, her name alongside Muroni’s is already making the Capitoline dem speak of “commissariat”. Peppe Provenzano’s ratings also remain high, for whom there will certainly be “heavy delegation”. It is not yet known whether it will be the Foreign Affairs – although this remains the most plausible hypothesis – or whether it will also include the European Policies or whether the two proxies will be uncompressed. Moreover, the names on the field continue to be those of the most active exponents of the electoral campaign: Marco Furfaro is in pole position for the position of sole deputy secretary with possible responsibility for information. There is, again, Alessandro Zan for rights, Sandro Ruotolo with a delegation for legality and the South. And again: Antonio Misiani, who should be confirmed in Economics, and Andrea Pacella.
