A true obsession. The only point of contact for an alignment, the progressive one, which is constantly, without particular order, on more concrete and topical issues. The center-left returns, insistently, to surf the wave of anti-fascism. Enrico Letta’s poor results in the last September elections obviously didn’t help. Elly Schlein’s new Democratic Party continues along these lines. Fearless. In fact, if possible, try to underline it more emphatically. And it doesn’t matter if concrete examples of how this policy fails to convince voters come from the polls in Friuli. The umpteenth example of this fixation is demonstrated by the questions asked to the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, present yesterday at Vinitaly. The leader of the Brothers of Italy had to answer a question between the ridiculous and the grotesque. That is, if he is going to ask his ministers, even if they are mothers of slightly disobedient five or six year olds, to participate in the April 25th celebrations. “I don’t think I need to ask him. These are somewhat curious assessments that you make», Meloni replied, with a mixture of annoyance and surprise. A question that would never have been asked of a left-wing prime minister. A kind of original sin, that of representing a conservative formation, to be atoned for every day.
A second example of this slow, monotonous litany comes from Milan. The Undersecretary of Education, Paola Frassinetti, participated yesterday in an important tribute, that of Fausto Tinelli, an eighteen-year-old young man murdered on March 18, 1978 along with his friend Iaio Iannucci. The two teenagers were together in a bar in the Leoncavallo social center in Milan. They were going to Tinelli’s house for dinner together, like every Saturday night. They would then attend a jazz concert at the community center they used to attend. A few minutes before 8 pm they entered via Mancinelli, when they were confronted by three people, one of whom, as posthumously reported, was wearing a light raincoat. The three criminals opened fire on Iannucci and Tinelli, killing the first and leaving the second seriously injured on the sidewalk, who died shortly afterwards in hospital. An unsolved double homicide that never led to a conviction. However, considered one of many, other episodes of victims of that absurd war between right and left, which bloodied the Italian streets in the seventies. Two young men also remembered by the President of the Senate, Ignazio La Russa, in his inauguration speech at Palazzo Madama.
The presence of the undersecretary is evidently an attempt at reconciliation. A gesture that is anything but symbolic, but which, evidently, the entire left does not like. «It has nothing to do with what I’m doing, I don’t want to talk about history or fascism. I’m here to honor Tinelli. This gesture in itself speaks of my sensitivity against all violence. Clear words were spoken by Paola Frassinetti in response to those who asked if it was a good opportunity to define fascism as “absolute evil”. “I don’t want to get involved in historical discussions that are not my responsibility – she replied – today the government is here to honor that leftist boy, from Leoncavallo, who was murdered. Let’s see this idea as a positive idea instead of always looking for things that divide».
