The progressive alliance between the Democratic Party and the 5 Star Movement with Enrico Letta never flourished. Now, with the arrival of Elly Schlein as secretary of the Democratic Party, the situation is destined to change. So wrote the website “AffariItaliani.it”, which told about an already existing principle of agreement between the leader of the grillini Giuseppe Conte and the former vice president of the Emilia-Romagna region. And, from this possible alliance, the so-called Third Pole of Calenda and Renzi would be cut off, who never had an idyllic relationship with the pentastellati, on the contrary.
That of the Pd and the Cinquestelle would therefore consist of a long-term project, with some intermediate stages – above all the European and regional ones -, so that we can reach the end of this legislature united and try to win the alliance led by the center-right in the next elections by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who won the last two. The website that revealed the background claims that, however, the two parties will still stand separately in the European elections, each with its own symbol, to touch its own balance of power and from there build the foundations for an alliance. solid and lasting.
Most likely, however, the Democratic Party, before taking this path with conviction, will have to resolve its own internal conflicts that have immobilized it for years. A pact with 5 Estrelas, in fact, could lead to the risk of splitting some areas, such as the reformist or the moderate, which are struggling to digest a close relationship with Conte’s party. And the exit direction would deviate towards the Third Pole. Scenario feared by Schlein, who does not want to strengthen the other side of the balance. Meanwhile, the single party of Calenda and Renzi has already become aware of the choice of the Dem’s new secretary. From the series “we follow our path, what they do with Conte is their problem and we don’t want to interfere”. Only time will tell if this rapprochement between Pd and 5S will translate into that progressive alliance that has been talked about so much until now, but which never existed until now.
