Online prescribing ban lifted

Doctors are allowed to prescribe medication to patients after contact via the Internet. According to Minister Kuipers, this is no longer a time when a doctor or other healthcare provider has to meet a patient face-to-face.

The physical contact requirement was also lifted during the coronavirus pandemic, and Kuipers thinks it’s working. He will now prepare a bill to regulate the new system. Online prescribing is also allowed in advance: Kuipers has established a “policy rule” for this.

A number of conditions must be met before a patient can receive medication in this way. For example, no physical examination should be required and the physician should have the patient’s current drug information.

From the minister’s point of view, expansion sees a need and contributes to barrier-free care. Professional associations will now develop more framework conditions for responsible adoption of adaptation.
