Legal ban on express delivery drivers under 16, very dangerous on a fast bike

Young people under the age of 16 will soon not be allowed to deliver groceries for the fast food delivery service, the so-called lightning delivery service. Delivery guys often use a fast (electric) bike in heavy traffic, and it’s very dangerous. Social Affairs and Employment Minister Van Gennip, who will amend the Child Labor Law, says the pressure to quickly deliver food for children under 16 is also huge.

From July 2020, 13, 14 and 15 year olds are no longer allowed to deliver meals. PvdA and GroenLinks believe the ban should apply to lightning suppliers as well, and Minister Van Gennip agrees. He hopes the ban will go into effect in 2023 this year. An exact date is not yet available.

Homework

For example, the rules for working in the supermarket for children aged 13-15 will be relaxed. They will now be able to work until 7 pm. This is extended by an hour until 8pm to avoid little time left for homework or “social activities,” but only on days or weeks when there is no school. Parents have to agree, too.

The ministry also examined whether the work of young influencers, who sometimes make a lot of money by vlogging, could be better controlled. This is not easy because most of the work is done at home and there is no real employer. Minister Van Gennip is worried that sometimes these children have to release videos under great pressure and stress.

“Experiences where children are used as a revenue model by parents or companies should be better addressed,” the minister said in the House of Representatives. Will see if young influencers will abide by the rules of young artists; Only a limited number of days work per year is allowed. The Minister will now examine this in more detail.
