The reduction in the tax burden, i.e. the difference between the gross wage on the payroll and that actually received, will now be 7% for earnings of up to 25,000 euros. And six for those who earn from this threshold up to 35 thousand euros per year. Savings that will be guaranteed from July to December. But also stricter rules for employee safety and citizen income reform. These are the measures that Prime Minister Meloni illustrated yesterday to the unions gathered at Palazzo Chigi in the dl and ddl dedicated to employment that will be on the table of the council of ministers this morning.
A comparison judged by the head of government as “very important” in the interventions that “we launched on a symbolic day and in which we consider a preventive discussion with trade union organizations useful”. The one on May 1, he added, “is not a one-off appointment but one more sign that the Government considers the confrontation with the social partners very important, at a particular moment when we have many challenges to face for our nation”. However, it was not a very easy meeting, with a large part of the introduction devoted to the controversy between CGIL Secretary Maurizio Landini and the Prime Minister over whether to approve the texts on May 1st.
A consummate battle that caused not a little disappointment in those present and also in Meloni who replied: «A Council of Ministers on May 1st to cut the cost of labor is not a lack of respect. It is a sign, and I expected a brave one». With the curtain closed, the table was finally able to have greater clarity about the interventions. In particular, the citizen’s income reform, for which its division between support for fragility (with a dowry of 5.4 billion) and the way to start employment (which will start from the next 1st of September, will cost 276 million this year and 2.1 billion next). It is also planned to increase the resources for the fund for new competences and to revise the rules for fixed-term contracts. Now the fixed term can be extended up to 24 months even without reason.
Point contested by unions who saw in the law a return to greater precariousness of work. Finally, it increases the threshold for payments with vouchers, from 10 to 15 thousand euros, namely for companies in the sector of fairs, congresses and events. Finally, Meloni called for “a serious and constructive dialogue, both at work and at Pnrr, RepowerEU , corrections in the way resources are spent, salary policy and the consequent fight against inflation. All the reforms we will face in the coming weeks.
