He writes to let students know he’s a PD candidate: sanctions against a professor

“As you know, there will be municipal elections in Siena on 14 and 15 May, so I would be grateful if you would like to support me.” No, it is not a common election brochure, but an email sent by a Siena professor from the person’s work address to all students and their families.

Siena city council candidate Francesca Stella, 44, who is on the centre-left list supporting candidate Anna Ferretti, sent it, pointing to the fourth and fifth grade students of the Siena Bandini Institute. Having a person from the institute sit on the city council or even be a reference for the future mayor will be beneficial not only for our school, but also for our beautiful city and its surroundings, and for future developments. Especially in recent years, many aspects of services to citizens have been unfortunately neglected, and places that are beneficial for all of us, as well as various areas for culture, are for our students and children.”

The case was denounced by Lorenzo Rosso, director of Fratelli d’Italia Siena and member of the party’s selection committee for the next municipal election, in a memo claiming to have been contacted by various parents who reported the incident. Fratelli d’Italia, in this context, did not even exclude the possibility of presenting a parliamentary question on the subject.

At the moment, there is a clear condemnation of the school principal, who declared that he was far from the truth and declared “disciplinary action” against the teacher. And the institute’s response came with a note declaring it “completely irrelevant to what was sent by Professor Stella, acting in a purely personal capacity. An action that takes place using official channels – we read it – and the institute’s logo is greatly damaging. We believe that norms have been violated”.
