Italy-France, frost on migrants. Tajani cancels trip: “Unacceptable infractions”

Once again, there is high tension between Rome and Paris over immigration. The case explodes after the words of the French Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, who in an interview with Rmc. attacked the government and Giorgia Meloni, defined as “incapable of solving the migration problems for which she was elected” and accused of “lying to the population”. Words that provoked a harsh reaction from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, who announced the cancellation of the visit to France: “I will not go to Paris for the scheduled meeting with Minister Catherine Colonna. Darmanin are unacceptable. This is not the spirit in which common European challenges should be tackled,” the Deputy Prime Minister wrote on Twitter.

French Chancellor Catherine Colonna, for her part, tried to pour water on the fire: “I spoke to my colleague Antonio Tajani on the phone. I told him that the relationship between Italy and France is based on mutual respect, between our two countries and between their leaders. . I hope to be able to receive you soon in Paris”, tweeted after the announcement of the head of Farnesina.

And so is the diplomatic crisis between Italy and France again. On October 23 last year, in Rome, Giorgia Meloni and French President Emmanuel Macron met for the first time – for an informal conversation, in the capital for an event organized by the Community of Sant’Egidio. And already a few days later, the first diplomatic crisis erupted over the Ocean Viking case.
