Brothers from Italy, Colosimo in Antimafia. Normal Escape from Pd and M5S

Chiara Colosimo, member of the Brothers of Italy, is since yesterday the new President of the Parliamentary Anti-Mafia Commission, elected with 29 votes, those from the center right, while 4 went to Dafne Musolino, from “South calls North” . The newly elected President declared: “My first thought goes to Giovanni Falcone, on the anniversary of the Capaci massacre in which he lost his life together with his wife Francesca Morvillo, also a magistrate, and their escort made up of Antonio Montinaro, Vito Schifani and Rocco Dicillo. And to the victims of all the massacres, mafia-style and terrorist.” And he added, addressing the other members of the Commission: “I express the hope that all of us, together, will be able to carry out fruitful work, offering an effective contribution in the struggle against organized crime.” Vice-presidents, Deputies Mauro D’Attis and Federico Cafiero De Raho, respectively from Forza Italia and Movimento 5 Stelle.

As usual, many declarations came from representatives of the majority and the government for the election of the presidency of the Palazzo San Macuto body. In particular, the Brothers of Italy who “gathered” around their exponent, over whom the controversy had been unleashed a few days ago, due to the content of an investigation by the Report program, which attributed to the parliamentarian a proximity to the former Nar Luigi Ciavardini . In reality, that presumed proximity was only related to the activity carried out by Colosimo when he was a member of the Regional Council, within the scope of the prison issue. Ciavardini, by the way, is part of an association that deals with the social inclusion of prisoners. A clarification to which Colosimo returned yesterday: “I don’t have any friends-he said in this regard-but I have done what I have to do in my role as a regional councilor. I know Ciavardini because he is in an association that deals with the reintegration of prisoners ». However, Pd, Movimento 5 Stelle and Alleanza Verdi-Sinistra put their foot down against the deputy of the Brothers of Italy and did not participate in the vote.

The Third Pole supported Dafne Musolino. According to senator Pd Walter Verini (new leader of the Antimafia group) “with this presidency the Commission starts crippled and with little legitimacy”. According to senator Roberto Scarpinato, then, “the election of Chiara Colosimo represents a sign of the times, of this era of normalization and restoration”. In addition, MEP Dino Giarrusso, former M5S, is also very tough, speaking of “a slap in the face to family members who are victims of the mafia”. However, behind Pd-Movimento 5 Stelle’s Aventino there is also a veil of parliamentary tactics. Raffaella Paita from the Third Pole points this out: «There are opposition forces, Pd and M5S, who decide to leave the Chamber, instead of waging an open battle. Then, coincidentally, they come back when they have to vote for their vice-presidents». In the hectic day-to-day life, however, what now seems to be a constant in the PD’s parliamentary practice is reinforced, that is, not participating in the work when someone (or something) doesn’t like it. A quick list is made by Enrico Costa, from Azione-Italia Viva: «The Democratic Party does not go to the Justice Commission if Delmastro is there, it leaves the room when Foti speaks, it does not participate in the votes of the Presidency of Justice Councils in protest, no participates in the vote of the President of Antimafia. More than opposition, it is a continuous and repeated escape».
