“Did I say president?” Upon hearing the translation from Italian into English during the press conference with Ursula von der Leyen, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni realized that she had set Raffaele Fitto as president and not as minister. “I calm everyone down, having chosen Fitto as president is not a candidacy, you never know…” jokes the Prime Minister about the Minister of European Affairs, before handing over to the President of the European Commission, who arrived on a visit to the region of Emilia-Romagna hit by the floods of recent days. Fitto, a former leader of the Brussels group of conservatives and reformists, also hosted the delegation on territorial cohesion and the Pnrr when the government was formed: he is one of Prime Minister Meloni’s supporters.
