A result that shattered all predictions on the eve: Stefano Bandecchi is officially the new mayor of Terni. In fact, Unicusano’s patron took 54.62 percent of the vote, beating the centre-right coalition of outgoing mayor Orlando Masselli, who remained with 45.38 percent of the vote. Bandecchi thus spoiled the first-round result when he received 28.14 votes against his opponent’s 35.81. The entrepreneur from Livorno, who is very attached to the city, is also the president of Ternana Calcio.
Born in 1961, Bandecchi is known to the public as the founder of Unicusano University. He was born in Livorno and tends to indicate in his curriculum that he is a Folgore paratrooper who has served in Lebanon. For a long time he was known only as the head of Unicusano, but over time his visibility and entrepreneurial activities became very diverse and spread to various sectors: catering, healthcare, publishing. Unicusano has owned Ternana since 2017, currently in Serie B after being relegated to Serie C in the first season following a change of ownership.
Bandecchi, who was politically active first at MSi and then at Forza Italia, admitted to funding various political parties from right to left in the past. In the past, the entrepreneur announced that he wanted to buy his hometown of Livorno Calcio and sparked a wave of criticism from Italy’s most left-wing supporters precisely because of his past. There was also strong criticism of Unicusano, seen by many as a “less structured” university than others, meaning it failed to provide adequate preparation that business investments would exceed educational ones.
It is also a fact that the entrepreneur from Livorno managed to reflect himself on a national scale, thanks to his clever use of communication tools. And it is said to be the end point of Terni’s political career.
