In Kosovo, 41 KFOR soldiers were injured in serious clashes between NATO troops and Serb demonstrators in Zvecan. Among them are also 11 Italian servicemen. In the afternoon, KFOR units were deployed to quell violent demonstrations in the 4 northern counties of Kosovo. During the confrontation of the most active fringes of the crowd, several soldiers of the Italian contingent belonging to the 9th Alpini Regiment in L’Aquila suffered trauma injuries and burns due to the explosion of incendiary devices, according to what was announced by the Defense General Staff. Promptly rescued by KFOR medical units, they are currently under observation by health personnel who are investigating their health status.
After the attack came a message from Ignazio La Russa, president of the Senate: “I wish to express my sincere closeness to the Italian, Hungarian and Moldovan soldiers of the NATO KFOR mission who were wounded in the clashes in Kosovo. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for them.”
