School, alarming data on attacks on teachers Valditara is worried

School violence is on the rise and the latest numbers are cause for concern. In an interview with Corriere della Sera, the Minister of Education and Merit Giuseppe Valditara highlighted the unfortunate episodes of recent times, starting with the stabbing of a teacher by a student that took place at an institute in Abbiategrasso: “A particularly disturbing event took place. But fortunately we are not at the levels of the United States, I do not see a broadcast of episodes similar to those we read in the news in the United States. However, there is a double problem in schools, the increase in the psychological discomfort of adolescents and the increase in bullying episodes, even against teachers”.

“The Covid experience – explains the government minister Meloni – contributed to breaking that interpersonal relationship that is fundamental in educational development. There are alarming reports of threats and even beatings against teachers. The regional education departments informed us that since the beginning of the school year there have been about five cases per month. Where you have been asked, we have already arranged legal defense by the state attorney. All this should make us think.”

In an interview with the newspaper, Valditara traced the path to follow: “I believe that above all it is necessary to recreate a climate of serenity in schools, to value that educational community that commits itself every day to supporting and developing the talents of each child, giving special attention to the individual’s personality, so that they live their growth process without generating anxiety or, even worse, dramatic situations. On the subject of the mental suffering of adolescents, I consider above all that – the comment – forms of psychological help should also be introduced for students who show particular suffering”.
