The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, paid a visit to Emilia-Romagna to express closeness to the people affected by the flooding. The Head of State, after flying over the areas where the landslides occurred, arrived in Modigliana, welcomed by the President of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Stefano Bonaccini, and the Mayor Giancarlo Jader Dardi. At 11 am in Forlì, he met with a representative of the first responders, to thank the volunteers who have done their best these days to support the citizens: “I have no words to adequately thank. What you have done and continue to do is of tremendous importance. It is an example of solidarity and common commitment and of extraordinary generous availability. Thank you for what you do.”
Mattarella then continued his tour heading to Cesena, Ravenna and Lugo. Last appointment of the day at 5 pm in Faenza, where he will meet with the mayors and through them he will ideally welcome the populations affected by the calamity. “This is a square that has witnessed many important moments in the city’s history. This is a challenging, difficult moment, I saw many wounds in the area, in relation to many houses, many businesses, roads, how much there is to be assumed with courage and decision to relaunch common life. I know they will succeed with the help of the State, the Government, I know they will succeed because this is the will of these districts”, words of the tenant of the Quirinale de Forlì.
“The mayor has well expressed this determined will to recover and relaunch – continued Mattarella -. What I would like to say is that all of Italy is close to you and you will not be alone in this important work that must be done quickly. This territory is a very important element, fundamental for the life of Italy: it is for its economy, for its history. So the need for a relaunch is not just yours, it is a national need and in this, you can be sure, there will be all the consent and constant support not only in these days, but also in the future, because – the president reiterated – this is a job to be done quickly. It’s going to take a lot of effort, it’s going to take commitment, but you won’t be alone in this. Congratulations on your resistance and best wishes.” Mattarella’s mission follows that of Giorgia Meloni and Ursula von der Leyen in areas ravaged by nature’s fury.
