The surrogacy distinction, then, comes from a leading figure in the Democratic Party and sounds like a dangerous trip for Elly Schlein’s secretary. D’Amato uses clear words to condemn the practice of surrogacy. «My adherence to the appeal stems from a left-wing critique of the practice of the Gpa (pregnancy for others, ed.). That is why I invite everyone to join the appeal launched by the NoGpa Network and to sign the petition to say a strong no to the unacceptable commodification of women’s bodies”.
A position, that of Alessio D’Amato, which arrives on the day that the Justice Commission of the Chamber of Deputies gave the green light to the bill, promoted by the Lega and Fratelli d’Italia, which aims to make the substitute uterus a “crime universal”. In other words, a crime that can be prosecuted wherever it is committed, even outside Italy.
Among Democratic Party advocates, however, there are several voices against surrogacy, and not just from the Catholic wing.
