Meloni on the sacrifice of Salvo D’Acquisto: thus silencing the left

Who knows if the left will also find the words spoken this morning by the prime minister inconvenient or inappropriate. Giorgia Meloni, for years unjustly accused by the left of not having reconciled with the fascist past, dedicates a reflection to Salvo D’Acquisto, on the Carabinieri’s 209th anniversary. “The Government sends a moving thought to all those who, wearing the glorious uniform of the Weapon, fell in the fulfillment of their duty and also performed heroic deeds. I remember in particular Deputy Brigadier Salvo D’Acquisto, who at the age of 22 gave life to save dozens of innocents taken hostage by the SS and now certain to be shot”.

Precise words, which cannot leave any doubts. Not even for those whose heart beats to the left and sees (improbable) fascism returns at every corner. “The next 23rd of September will mark the 80th anniversary of his sacrifice, a timeless testament to what it means to be a great Italian and a great carabiniere”. The prime minister then devoted himself, in his speech, to the central role of the carabinieri.

“For 209 years, the Arma has represented an irreplaceable point of reference for the Italian people. For more than two centuries, the Arma has been that thin red and blue thread that unites the nation and makes a history of great and small heroism more visible. government expresses its gratitude to each carabineer who, every day, defends our security and our freedom, whether in the national territory thanks to the more than five thousand garrisons, whether in peacekeeping missions abroad and in the various theaters of operations: from Iraq to Kosovo, from Nigeria to Djibouti. Men and women passionate about the service they provide and who are an example of dedication, professionalism and humanity”.
