Pride of Rome, the region of Lazio revokes its patronage

The storm kicks off at Roma Pride scheduled for the capital on Saturday, June 10th. The Lazio Region has officially communicated that it wants to withdraw its sponsorship because the event would promote illegal behavior such as renting a womb. “Today the Lazio Region took steps to withdraw its sponsorship of the event called ‘Roma Pride 2023’. The decision became necessary and inevitable following the statements, tones and intentions contained in the event’s manifesto entitled “Queeresistence”, which can be consulted publicly on the kermesse website. These statements violate the conditions expressly required for the granting of sponsorship previously granted in good faith by the Lazio Region. In particular, the text violates the explicitly required conditions of respect for the sensibilities of Lazio citizens and claims the imposition of the legalization of illegal actions prohibited by the Italian legal system. The institutional signature of the Region of Lazio cannot and will never be used to support demonstrations aimed at promoting illegal behaviour, with specific reference to the practice of the so-called surrogacy womb.
