Pnrr, Luciano Violante agrees with Meloni: unfounded disagreement in the Court of Auditors

Pnrr, shock over the controls of the Court of Auditors. Now even the former president of the Chamber, Luciano Violante, agrees with the action of the government led by Giorgia Meloni. The clash between politics and the judiciary over the Pnrr, according to former mayor Luciano Violante, is “an unfounded fight”. This is what he explains in an interview with Corriere della Sera. “The Draghi government – he recalls – presented a decree-law in May 2021 that excluded the concomitant control of the Court of Auditors over procedures related to the Pnrr”. There is “a need for a new decree-law to confirm what the Draghi government had already decided”. «This regulation – continues Violante – has not weakened supervision because supervision during construction is the responsibility of the European Commission. The current government extended it for another year with a view to reorganizing the administrative and accounting responsibilities of civil servants. It is, therefore, a temporary provision, like the previous ones, and not the implementation of a regime”.

«The Pnrr – according to Violante – exposed some of our historical weaknesses. The Autostrada del Sole was built in just 8 years. Today that time would be enough only for preliminary studies. I would prefer that we love Italy more than our parties, majority or opposition, and that we build the necessary skills for a modern industrial democracy, rather than fighting over the powers of the Court of Auditors. We may be able to do that, as in the reconstruction of the bridge in Genoa». As for the positions of the parties, “good, competent and quick controls are needed. As for the Democratic Party – according to the former mayor – sometimes a minority vocation seems to prevail». Soft on the government? “I say what I think responsibly,” he guarantees.
