Paolo Gentiloni freezes on the left. “In the rise of government authoritarianism, just one day was enough. The tug of war to limit the role of the Court of Auditors is further proof of this”. This is how Romano Prodi, former leader of the left, spoke a few days ago about the government’s moves on the Pnrr. The words of the Bolognese professor were ridden by a large part of the Democratic Party – today and in the past – but they are not reflected at European level. The EU Commissioner for the Economy, Gentiloni, in an interview with Skytg24, in fact avoided any reprimand to the executive led by Giorgia Meloni: “The decision of the Italian Government on the controls of the Court of Auditors to the National Plan for Recovery and Resilience is not commented on particularly in Brussels neither in positive nor negative terms, it is part of a choice of the Italian government and Parliament”.
Gentiloni then expressed himself on the Pnrr funds: “It is clear that the European Commission has the maximum flexibility possible, not only for good manners but to avoid, especially in countries with important plans, that there are no excessive delays, this is our interest. Commission’s willingness to say ‘ok, let’s look at the fourth installment’ but we also need to look at the whole refurbishment as quickly as possible, not waiting for the last minute.” No closure to plan changes.
