Controversy built on nothing. Palazzo Chigi categorically denies that there have been disagreements within the government over the law relating to the taxation of extra bank profits. Sources from the Council Presidency underline how the reconstructions that appeared in some press bodies about the genesis of the bank extra-profit rule, according to which there would have been a contrast of views between the MEF and the Council Presidency, “are totally invented and the fruit of the imagination of those who wrote about it”.

The Presidency of the Council reiterates what was already highlighted in yesterday’s note from the Ministry of Economy and Finance: “the text of the law was drawn up by the MEF in full agreement with the entire Government, and unanimously approved by the Council of Ministers”, noted the same sources. The harmony in the government’s movement that wants to accommodate families and the increases in mortgages, which arrived due to the increase in interest rates decided by the ECB to contain vertiginous inflation.
