Case Vannacci, Donzelli: “The left does not call itself a moral agent”

General Roberto Vannacci’s book “The world upside down” unleashed a real storm. The military, for the self-produced publication, was first accused of racism and homophobia, and then dismissed from command of the Military Geographical Institute in Florence. The decision of the General Staff of the Army took place 24 hours after the beginning of the controversy. The Italian Army has announced that the general will step down as commander on Sunday, August 20, and will therefore be transferred as an extra organic force to the Comfoter, or Land Operational Forces Command. Now comes Giovanni Donzelli’s commentary.

“The Army, which has strict rules of law, also at the minister’s request, initiated a disciplinary examination. Some associations also announced denunciations and therefore the Judiciary will also have to examine the words of its book”: thus the deputy of Fratelli, from Italy, who granted some statements to Ansa, expressed his opinion on the case that is drawing public attention and dividing politics.

Then Giovanni Donzelli continued: “I read that the Democratic Party does not do enough. Here, I find it particularly unpleasant. No one has given the Italian left the right to appoint themselves censors, moral agents of political correctness. It is not up to the Democratic Party to decide what may or may not be written in the books”. “In a liberal democracy it is not the task of politics to examine the moral correctness of the content of the writings. Neither of the government nor of a minority party”, concluded the head of the organization of the Brothers of Italy who, even today, presented the results of the first year of government of Meloni in Pescara, as part of the “Beat Italy” campaign.
