On Saturday morning, September 2, the president published via his ‘X’ account the proposal that citizens can pay a monthly amount for the use of public transport through their energy bill. This would entitle you to get on any bus route.
“An idea for cities with massive public transport: what if we paid for public transport every month through a small allowance on the electricity bill and gave us the right to get on any bus every day and for as long as possible?”, Petro published via ‘X’ (formerly Twitter).
According to the head of state, mass transport would become free in this way, because it would be subsidized by all social strata.
“It would apparently, and actually for many, be free transportation, and the actual payment for it would be split among the societies of the respective cities, with weight given to the tiers in the bills,” he explained.
In addition, he states in his proposal that a ‘transport subsidy’ could be created for strata 1 and 2, arguing that this would put an end to evasion in the transport system.
“A transportation subsidy could easily be instituted for economically weak strata; evasion would end up in the system. The wealthy might not use public transportation, but subsidize the less wealthy,” the president said.
Finally, he emphasized that this proposal would eliminate the use of cards, making the stations smoother. According to Petro, deaths due to evasion of controls would also be avoided.
“The stations would be much smoother due to the lack of card control. People wouldn’t die evading the controls. There would be no monumental shortfalls in public transport finances,” he stressed.
