“You are a newcomer and an impostor”: the harsh accusations against Escaf

The political battle in the Atlantic Ocean is stirring again. This time because of a confrontation provoked by Representative Agmeth Escaf’s accusations against Verónica Patiño, candidate for governor of the Fuerza Ciudadana movement.

The congressman claimed through the media and social networks that Patiño’s ambition has no relation to the Historical Pact coalition. He added that the candidate and her husband, Máximo Noriega, had an impact on the division of progressivism in the department.

“Ms. Verónica Patiño is wrong and lying. I remind you that Fuerza Ciudadana (the party that gave him the support) is not part of the Pact and that they went to the 2022 parliamentary elections with a separate list,” he recently indicated via his X profile, formerly Twitter.

In response to these accusations, Patiño explained that Escaf has launched a series of political attacks on his campaign, which have now reached the personal level.

“Mr. Escaf claims that my husband and I divided the Historical Pact, which seems irresponsible and untrue to me. We have been supporting a political project for more than thirty years and are truly alternative and progressive,” the candidate said.

Patiño described Escaf as a “newcomer and a fraud.” He also indicated that the congressman does not represent the interests of the alternatives in the department.

“He did not come on merit, but was hand-picked from Bogotá. Thanks to us, the progressives and Petrists, you are a representative of the House. “You, together with Mr. Eduardo Noriega, insist on withdrawing support for my husband’s candidacy, which was on the rise,” she added.

He also stated that Escaf is leading a “perverse strategy” and that it was built with the support of “political and mafia clans.”

“You’re the bad guy. I am a worthy woman and in front of society I will not allow any spirit to disrespect me. The Historical Pact in our department is divided because of him and his desire to disguise his compadre Alfredo Varela as alternative and progressive,” he stressed.

In this context, Máximo Noriega, former candidate for governor of Atlántico, stated that Escaf’s “sexist attacks” want to divide progressivism in Atlántico in order to validate support for another candidate for the first position in the department.

It is worth remembering that Escaf announced at the beginning of this month that the Historical Pact has signed an agreement to join the campaign of Alfredo Varela, of the coalition Atlántico Avanza.
