The habit of extrapolating sentences and paraphrasing them to your liking also involved the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella. And the fact, near the Quirinale, did not provoke a friendly reaction. Far from it. According to the background reported by Il Giornale, the head of state did not appreciate “the free and imaginative interpretation” of his words spoken during the Festival delle Regioni in Turin by the left-wing press, in particular by La Repubblica and La Imprensa, with this allegedly “attempted to insert the figure of the President of the Republic in the clash between the government and the judiciary”. But let us first start with the general considerations expressed by Mattarella regarding public health, a crucial issue in the budgetary maneuver: “It is a precious heritage, to be defended and adapted” and, in this sense, “the reflection of the Regions, in dialogue with the country and with society, is particularly important.”
Routine assessments, with which the President of the Republic wanted to highlight the relevance of a topic to be treated with white gloves. But for Repubblica these sentences would be equivalent to “a warning that comes on days when the government, looking for money to survive with a complicated maneuver, chooses the path of cuts”. Not only that, because it would also be “aid that does not escape governors, of all political stripes, who are already up in arms due to lack of resources in the budget law”. In short, a pretext to attack the government led by Giorgia Meloni. At a time when solidity is needed between institutions, the newspaper speaks of the “astonishment” felt around the Quirinale after reading the review.
