A month full of challenges, many hot topics. In September, the Meloni government had to deal with two difficult issues to resolve. Firstly, there is the issue of migrants. Although the Twenty-Seven agree that the priority is to stop illegal landings and the traffickers who make a business out of them, Poland and Hungary oppose redistribution. Managing the country’s economy does not remain in the background. The situation is delicate and most are trying to act cautiously for the good of the country. According to research by Nando Pagnoncelli, published in Corriere della Sera, these aspects, however, do not seem to have an impact on the electorate.
The government’s evaluation does not show major changes and remains stable: 42% express positive evaluations, 47% negative, with an appreciation index of 47. How do Italians evaluate Giorgia Meloni’s work? 43% approve, 45% criticize, with an index of 49. The discomfort expressed, according to data from Pagnoncelli, is not, however, a symptom of the need for change. “In fact, if we look at the voting scenarios, it appears that the center-right is improving its positions in general. In fact, faced with a slight decline in the Fratelli d’Italia (minus 0.4% compared to compared to last month, with an estimated 29.8% of valid votes), an appreciable growth of the League emerges, which stands at 10.1%, an increase of two percentage points compared to September. Growth undoubtedly transmitted by the positions expressed on the migration issue, but also as an indication of Salvini’s ability to intercept and emphasize feelings present in his electoral area”, reads the article published in the newspaper.
In the government coalition, Forza Italia rises a few tenths, +0.4%, up to 7%. These data put an end to all rumors that the party founded by Silvio Berlusconi is losing ground. The situation is changing on the center left. “The Democratic Party loses one percentage point and stands at 18.5%, for the first time since the election of Elly Schlein, below the results of the 2022 elections. Internal divisions and also the difficulty of expressing a clear line weigh heavily here, appearing often, with good reason. or mistakenly, as a party that “pursues” and not as a party that determines the area’s agenda”, writes Pagnoncelli. The Green Left and the +Europe Alliance retreat. The 5 Star Movement is growing half a point, estimated at 16.9%. Small setbacks also for Azione and Italia viva, the first estimated at 3.2%, the second at 3%. Abstentions are increasing, with a percentage of 42.8%. The leaders’ ranking places Tajani and Conte firmly in first place, both with an index of 31, followed by Salvini, with an index of 29. Elly Schlein remains at 25. The rest stop between 18 and 20.
