Israel, Meloni at Cairo peace summit: two-state solution

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is in Cairo, Egypt, at the Middle East peace summit, an event promoted by President al Sisi to work on resolving the conflict in the Middle East. “The structural solution to the crisis lies with two peoples and two States,” said Meloni in her speech. It is necessary to resume “a political initiative for a structural solution to the crisis” in the Middle East. “A solution that has to be concrete and have a defined timetable”, she emphasizes. “We must do everything possible to avoid an escalation of this crisis” because, warned the Prime Minister, “the consequences would be unimaginable”. “Italy is the bridge for dialogue between Europe and the Middle East”, hopes the Prime Minister who warns: “No cause justifies terrorism and the massacre of newborns”.

However, “a State’s reaction cannot and should never be motivated by feelings of revenge. A State bases its reaction on precise security reasons, measuring its strength and protecting the civilian population. We must stand in the face of terrorism and I am confident that this is also Israel’s will,” says Meloni.
