PVV leader Wilders hopes that Pieter Omtzigt (NSC) will reconsider his intention not to govern with the PVV. “I hope his attitude will change,” Wilders said in an interview with NOS at the beginning of his campaign. “Maybe it won’t happen now, but it will happen after the election,” he said.
Omzigt said he only wanted to govern with parties that “leave the rule of law intact.” And in his opinion, PVV does not belong there, as he made clear in the Buitenhof television program in mid-September.
The previous day, Wilders had announced that the PVV wanted to join the government in a new cabinet and that “some corners and edges” had been removed from the asylum plans. The PVV hopes to come to power not only with the VVD but also with the NSC van Omtzigt, which is ranked high in the polls.
Basically no objection
Wilders does not believe Omtzigt has fundamental problems with PVV. Wilders emphasizes that Omtzigt is sitting in the PVV seat in the European Council. Omtzigt asked him after leaving CDA in 2021. “I said: Dear Pieter, of course you can sit in this chair. “It is still there today and has basically no objections.”
The PVV leader fears the formation of a cabinet consisting of GroenLinks/PvdA if the NSC wins a large number of seats in the House of Representatives elections on 22 November. “If Pieter Omtzigt makes it possible to govern with the left, he will have something to explain to his voters.”
Meanwhile, Omtzigt did not want to say too much whether he had actually ruled out PVV at Buitenhof. First of all, he made it clear that he had little interest in doing business with Wilders. Wilders interpreted his words as an exclusion.
