Soumahoro’s wife and mother-in-law were arrested

House arrest for Marie Therese Mukamatsindo and Liliane Murekatete, mother-in-law and wife of MP Aboubakar Soumahoro (never investigated, ed) and members of the Board of Directors of the integrated social cooperative “Karibu”. The Latina financial police carried out the order given by the investigating judge within the scope of investigations into the activities of cooperatives involved in the management of asylum seekers and unaccompanied children.

How did the Soumahoro case end?

In addition to the two women, the military imposed a third injunction: a residence requirement for the MP’s mother-in-law’s child. Therefore, the measures concern the members of the board of directors of the cooperative. The charges include, for various reasons, fraud in public property, fraudulent bankruptcy of assets (due to diversion) and self-extortion. The finance department, coordinated by the Latina prosecutor’s office, also carried out a preventive seizure of the proceeds of the crime committed against the suspects, in order to seize them for equivalent purposes.

Accusations against Soumahoro’s family

The investigation began in 2019 and uncovered an alleged mechanism for illegal actions at two cooperatives linked to the MP’s family dealing with immigrants. Various irregularities are objected to: excessive number of guests, dilapidated accommodation with inadequate furniture, poor hygienic conditions and lack of heating. The prosecutor’s office explains in a note that it is “exemplary” in this regard: the incidents of Cas of Aprilia (Via Lipari), Latina (Hotel de la Ville Central) and Maenza (Casal dei Lupi) managed by Karibu, and these are Cas of Latina (managed by Consorzio Aid). Via Romagnoli and Via del Pioppeto)”. “We condemn the non-compliance with the agreed conditions, detected by the prefectural inspectors, as well as the Latina ASL inspectors and firefighters, which resulted in the guests living in conditions offensive to the rights and dignity of men and women.” Migrants seeking international protection are particularly vulnerable This situation, which is further aggravated due to their situation, has resulted in significant savings in expenses/profits that are used entirely for various expenses (hotels, restaurants, luxury clothing, accessories, jewelry, etc.) and/or investments. It is unrelated to the purposes of the public service and depends on the corporate purposes and profit motive of the cooperatives. It is certainly not inherent in its qualifications as a non-governmental organization.”

Therefore, after the judicial assessment of the bankruptcy of the Karbu cooperative, the hypothesis of crimes of “financial insolvency due to fraud (due to distraction)” and self-laundering of part of the amounts in question transferred abroad (Rwanda, Belgium and Portugal) emerged. and those who are re-employed in entrepreneurial activities and in any case unrelated to the purposes of assistance and management of immigrants and/or refugees in Italy”.

Soumahoro: “I continue to trust in justice”

“I note the measure imposed on my wife Liliane, I have nothing to add or comment other than continuing to trust in justice. I reiterate that I was not involved in anything as on record and I ask again that I respect my son’s privacy”, Soumahoro’s comment.
