The risk of expanding the theater of war is increasingly concrete. The Israeli army announced that it is increasing operations inside the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, this morning confirmation arrived of the death of Shani Louk, the 22-year-old girl kidnapped on October 7 by Hamas during the rave in the desert. Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, who has never hidden his pessimism, gave an interview to La Stampa and commented on the situation in the Middle East, which is increasingly worrying.
“Israel is doing what it has been saying for days that it wants to do. They will go ahead. We will see what the political consequences could be. Of course, Israel is not Hamas. And therefore it is the harsh reaction of a democratic and legal democracy. who wants to attack Hamas terrorists and not the Palestinian population”: this is how Guido Crosetto began, clarifying the strategy of the country attacked on October 7th. “To those who tell me today that Israel is becoming like Hamas at this rate, I answer one very simple thing: if Hamas had, in recent years, had the warlike potential of Israel, Israel would no longer exist and there would be no more being a Jew in Palestine. That is the fundamental difference. Hamas wants the total destruction, in any form, of Israel and all Jews. That is its objective”, continued the minister.
Has the much talked about land invasion started or not? The Minister of Defense, after admitting that it is not easy to say for sure, explained: “In Gaza there is no Hamas “neighborhood” that can be isolated from the rest of the inhabited areas. everyone understood that two cities coexist: one on the surface, inhabited by normal people, and a second hidden in the bowels of the first. Israelis cannot get to one except through the other. This is the drama.” The biggest fear and the most credible hypothesis is that the conflict is not evolving towards a ceasefire: “Things have gone too far and today is not the time for talks between Israel and Hamas. to the Italians , to the Europeans, that it will be a long war. Many only think about how to build the conditions for the next week of life. The tooth must be extracted and we immediately think of something else. Instead, this is a tooth that we will not be able to remove.” , he concluded.
